Talking Prepping for the new exhaust. Pointers??

I've finally made up my mind to install the 5" exhaust. I was torn betweed the 4 and 5 until I saw a picture in someone's gallery of them actually putting their foot with a shoe inside the 5". That's cool.

Having not taken mush of anything apart under the hood, except the air box of course, Do you guys have any advance prep work I should plan on doing? Somewhere I read that it only takes about an hour to do the whole project. Here's my deal, I haven't broken it to the wife that I'm doing this yet. The pipes get here Tuesday. She's out of town Tuesday and Wednesday, see where I'm going with this?? Plus I need the truck every day. So Can I get it done in a night? Are there any bolts that are prone to breaking / being rusted, etc.? Once I start the project, I'll be stranded out in the country with no way to go get any parts. So anything you guys can suggest that I get ahead of time would be greatly appreciated. And yes, obviously I am replacing the down pipe. Thanks again.

Soak all the clamps in penetrating oil. Thats about it. An extra set of hands will make a difference.

Take your time on the line up before bolting the hanger and joint clamps down hard its tight and takes some finess. Also on the first hanger past the tranny crossmember the washer has a tendency to rattle a couple of dabs of Permatex Black adhesive gasket maker will hold it in place.

On mine the 4" downpipe was 1" too long to fit up in there without removing the rear crossmember.
A floor jack was necessary to support the weight while the member was out.
It turns out that it was a good thing that it had to come out because there is precious little extra room for that big pipe to fit up in there. Once installed and everything is aligned correctly there is space for everything to fit without making contact anywhere, but there is very little room for error.
And welcome to the Cannon Club.
I'm glad you liked the picture.

You might not want to spray that clamp until the last time you drive it before the install. If it's two days before, then fine, spray it every day and then the night before. But if you are going to be driving it, then don't spray it because the tendency for that spray to stink once it gets baked on and starts smoking.

Getting that clamp off is very easy if you apply pressure to the little inner c-shaped part and tap. The pressure should be in the direction of removal. The jarring will dislodge the bridge and it comes right off.
Also removing the right side intercooler tube and MAP sensor line is a big help for gaining easy access.
What I used to tap the clamp loose is a large screwdriver and a hammer. You just have to get the angle right and it literally falls off.
