Well since my truck got broke into this last week I have been looking at all the different options out there for alarm systems. I would like something with remote start and possibly a turbo timer. Any suggestions would be great. Price and where you got it would be nice too.
I had a Compustar on my 02 F-150. It had all the bells and whistles.
1 1/4 mile range on the 2 way key fob. However, the fob was huge.
I think the newer compustar alarm systems have a smaller fob though.
One of the options on it (which I didn't get) was a temp sensor inside the truck and it would start up the truck and run for 15 min or so when the temp got below a certain threshold. Of course FirstTech is an AK company so that would make sense.
There are bunches of additional options for the FirstTech systems: glass breaking sensor, shock sensor, dome light current sensor (you can lock the doors and arm the system withindows down and someone reaching in and unlocking the door will set the alarm off), as well as a delayed remote start.
I agree the main fob is rediculous (and it's got a sports car on it, not a truck) but it has quite a range and will page you if the alarm goes off. It will also page you if someone 'taps the secret code' on the window with the glass breakage sensor. The good news is that there are smaller fobs that work with it.
On the down side, I'm resolving a fuse issue that is likely related to the alarm installation. PM me if if you want the FirstTech website.

Wolfe, I sent you a pm with a link to the viper site. Did the price of the system scare you off? Mine was around 399.00 installed for the viper 5900, not cheap but cheaper than 1 deductable payment or worse no truck, plus the added benefits remote start, turbo cool down, paging, etc. let us know what you end up with. I just chalked it up to that dreaded PMS!!

Yes I know and thank you. Im just doing more research before making a purchase. and no the price didnt scare me off, I know that you get what you pay for. Plus I have had some bad experiances with the place that carries them around here.
I had the Viper 5900 with SST installed yesterday on my truck. Nice system with interactive LCD remote and remote starter good for up to one mile away. Though I have a V10, it has a turbo and wait to warm thing for diesels from what I read on it's spec's sheet. I did some looking around and found the system for about $250-$300 online and I paid $550 (more expensive than what Redboat paid) here locally to have in professionally installed. I spoke to the tech that installed it and he had pretty much taken the front of the dash apart to get the computer module up and hidden and the headliner had to come down for the antenna. I don't have enough experience with the remote start wiring either, so I am glad to pay a few hundred for the installation. Plus according to Viper, it has to be professionally installed for the warranty to be effective. Overall it seems like real good system. If it deters even one thief, then it paid for itself.
