A month ago, the 3.0 was missing and had no power. Took it to the shop and the tech said it was a miss in #5 cylinder. He advised that the spark plugs were needing changed, thats what caused the miss and lack of power. $289 later it ran like a champ again. Yesterday it started to do the same thing. Miss out, no power, engine light flash, then steady on, flash, then steady on. Took it to the shop again and the same tech said that its probably the COP drawing moisture (now that i think about it, it was raining the last time and its raining again). He said that he could see if he could get a code. Again miss in #5. he said those coils are about 90 a piece and i would have to replace it.
So here is my question. Is there any way to stop this from happening or will i just have to take it in the rear again? Anyone else have this problem or is it just an isolated event? PLEASE HELP
They don't "draw" moisture.. usually what happens is the rubber plug boot cracks and allows the spark to leak... of if they do happen to get wet due to a coolant leak, etc they can eventually corrode... or just go bad for no apparent reason (actually a bad plug can cause them to go bad).
Just put a new one on and make sure the boot is sealed with dielectric grease (he probably did that when he replaced the plugs anyway)
