Thanks Tenn for the advice. No audio-show comps for me, I did that for five years but grew out of that stage. I used to have 8 yellow top batteries for that and drained them in about 20 seconds. I have one big sub amp and one decent size 4 channel amp(i don't crank music all the time), an inverter, a 250 watt dc-dc computer power supply, an external 120volt 300gb hard drive, a 15" lcd, heated seats, two head rest monitors soon, gauges, and i'm sure there is other stuff i am missing. I will look into a high output alt but if i can get a second alt put in for anywhere close in price i would still like to go that route. I think i found a bracket, alt, looks like the wiring harness, pulleys, and tensioner for cheap so if i can figure out the wiring and if the pcm will work with two alts without flashing it i think i will try it. I just want to be sure i know how to wire them and be sure the pcm is going to be fine. Thanks
thanks tenn. I would like to find out if someone else has successfully done this conversion and what wiring i will need to do and if the pcm i have now will work or if i need one from a dual alt truck. If this will work i can get the bracket and another alt and belt for about what a high about alt costs. So if anyone can help out with the wiring of this i would greatly appreciate your wisdom. Thanks
I have done alot of searching and found a chevy site that did the conversion. they two had a pcm that controlled the dual alts. It keeped the second one off till the voltage dropped below a set point and then turned the second alt on. One of their sponsers put together a kit and had an option where they wired the second alt to come on with the ignition. This way both alts were on all the time and only had to work half as hard as one running to power everything. Does anyone with more electrical knowledge see a problem with having the two alts running all the time when the ignition is on? Am i going to have a problem with to much voltage and not being able to regulate it? thanks for any help.
I don't think I even want to touch this one, but I did take a quick look and the Alt listed in catalog for dual were listed as 110 amp. And I couldn't find a picture listed that showed the brkt's, But a lot of the cop cars and some other people we deal with are using one big 200 amp Alt and they seem to be working for what they needed them for.
Yeah, I found that Xtreme Diesel has a dual alt kit for the Dmax trucks on their site. It is a new 145 amp alt. and all neede wiring to install but the kit isn't ready for sale yet and no price. Haven't been able to run across anything for a ford yet. I'm still lookin though. Another thing that I have run across could do away with your power inverter. Raven Technolog makes an underhood 5Kw generator for 6.0 and 7.3 PSD F series trucks. They use them on emergency vehicles. Ive seen one installed on a Red Cross emergency disaster response vehicle that had enough computers and radios in it to make your mind spin and was powered by one of these units. Just throwing out ideas here.
I had found this on ebay and ended up going out for dinner and forgot to be home in time when it ended. I was really upset with myself. It sold for 41 bucks and came with almost everything i would need. Here is the link http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=016&sspagename=STRK%3AME WA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=260074008557&rd=1&rd=1The wire harness looks like it goes in between the two alts? It looks like a ford factory harness. Does anyone know if this is what i would need and if that harness can be bought or the ford part number? If i get this harness is it going to work with the pcm i have for a single alt setup? Thanks for any advice. I really would like to get this together and am kicking myself for not getting this for 41 bucks and free shipping, the seller probably didn't make any money after shipping all those heavy parts. Also does anyone have the part number or a picture of the bracket for the second alt on the dual alt setup? I would like to find out what it looks like so i know what i am looking for. Thanks

Ed, I just looked on your site at the part number you gave me. Does that just go between the two alts? Is this something i just plug in and will work. If so i will be ordering a bunch of stuff from your site today. Thanks for the picture. Is there an extra tensioner i would need? If you sell all these things(bracket, bolts, wire harness, tensioner, and whatever i need) could you put a parts list together with a price and email or pm it. Thanks for your time, scott

Ponch just looked at ours they are dual 110's. Also I checked one of our non dual trucks from the same year and it does have a different PCM Code.
Ed has taken care of me quit a few times, if it can be done he will get you the best price possible. Might want to call Jody and get his input on the PCM might just be as easy as reflashing your chip.
Thanks alot for taking the time to check Alan. Once again you are a huge help. If you ever need anything just let me know. Do you know if the wire harness just goes from alt to alt like the one in the ebay link or is yours tied into the main harness? I am getting really close and it's not going to cost a fortune. Hopefully Ed can help and i will order from him today.
yea, I have to work on this, but if you send me a note from the contact us link on my web site that would be better, I will do my best but there maybe something a miss.
give me your vin also and i'll check PCM against amiller93's hopefully!
amiller93 can I have your vin number? since you have the dual alt.
one single high output should be enough unless you're amps are in the 4000w (total) range. if you run the correct size feed to your amps, which by the way most people do not because they dont know what size is good for x amount of amps, that will make a big difference in how the alt performs
