It's under vehicle, driver side, below seating area, mounted on frame in fuel line.

Don't know your model but you might need the fuel filter tools to remove the filter. These are like big plastic washers with a collar that slips under the filter retaining ring along the hose. I don't think you can remove the filter without this tool or something to slip under the retaining ring. A set to fit different Fords costs something like $5.

Biggest problem at least on my 94 is that there is not a lot of room to get your hand in there. Not enough leverage to make removal easy and putting the hose back on is a bit harder. Also note, some fuel filters are a little flimsey and you can bend the nipple or push the nipple part way into the filter can so be careful about your pushing and pulling.

Before you start let the truck sit overnight to let the fuel pressure bleed off. Have a drain pan handy incase some fuel still dribbles, probably. Also wouldn't hurt to have a fire extinguisher just incase you need to put yourself out. Static and gas are bad combos and winter means static.

Good Luck,

Jim Henderson

Yes. you'll need the tool. Check your auto parts place, they'll know. If you let it sit it will bleed down. You will spill some gas however. Keep a towel handy.

There is a retainer over the fuel line. Where it snaps over the line, lift it off(unsnap it) slide it out of the coupler and back out of the way. Put the tool over the line and slide it into the coupler. Push the tool into the coupler while pulling the line off the filter. To install just push the fuel line over the filter. No tool needed.

Hey 900rr, my truck is just like yours, only it's a 99. When I did my fuel filter, I got a set of tools like Jim Henderson described at my local ADAP for about 5 bucks. I found the right size and just slid it into the fuel line connection on the filter outlet side and gave it a tug. I lost about a cup or so of gas that sprayed out under pressure, so don't smoke during this operation! But when the pressure was released, everything else was easy. I did find that the filter I got from the ADAP, a Fram, did not fit. The diameter was smaller than the mounting bracket and it just flopped around. I decided to spring for a Motorcraft filter instead. It was only a couple of bucks more and it fit properly.
