Ford produced the 4.9 up to 1996 for the 1/2 ton, and (I believe) untill 1997 for the HD 3/4 ton and 1 ton models. To swap a fuelie 4.9 into a 1959? Alot of people will tell you not too, because of the "wiring headaches", but I think it's a great idea. Then again, I teach basic and advanced automotive electrical systems, and drivability diagnostics, so I might be jaded. Step one would be to get a factory electrical manual for the donor vehicle. Check out Helm.com, as they are the OEM supplier, and the cost for the manual isn't too bad (about 2x what a Chilton's book costs). Check Ebay too, because you'll often find factory manuals there. However, even thought this is the way I would go, I don't recommend you try it if wiring makes you queasy. Alot of people have great results with EFI mills converted to a carb (390 cfm 4bbl) and a Duraspark box (much better than points, but then that's the electrical side of my brain talking again!). I belive all that is required to convert a late 300 to carburation is an intake manifold, and a pre-efi distributor.

The '95 EFI 300 is pretty standalone as it is. You need the wiring harness and the computer.

Like Argo said, if wiring is not your strong suit, this project is not for you. It would be a lot easier to put a carb'd 300 in there.

It can't be just any per-efi distributor you have to make sure it's a duraspark because my 84 is carbed and had the TFI system on it which will not work without the original carb and emissions crap.
