I think everyone knows that Ford will attempt to see if a tuner has been installed on the new trucks and that the CPU's of the new trucks will be much more capable of detecting it. No matter what the manufacturers do, the aftermarket is good for 250 billion in sales--I'm sure it's already been delt with.

I agree. There will always be a market but I hope not to be a user of after-market modifications again. I have a 99' F350 with the 7.3. I installed Banks performance parts (stinger + kit), monster exhaust, and an exhaust brake in 2002, and was very happy with the performance. My truck has more power than the 6.0 and has been a great truck. However, it has been a pain to have work done with the after-market parts. The Ford dealer trys to blame any problem on the Banks stuff, and if and when you need the after-market stuff fixed, good luck finding capable folks. It just cost me over $2,000.00 to get the exhaust brake and performance parts working again with the truck out of service for 6 weeks while we sent parts to California, waited, got them and sent them back, etc.
I am on my third automatic transmission with the first two failures due in large part to the fact the tranny could not handle pulling a heavy load with the power produced by the motor. (My driving style probably had a little something to do with it too. )
I have ordered a new 6.4 F350 and plan to leave it stock. It should have about the same torque as my 99, more horsepower, and with the towmode tranny, hopefully won't need an exhaust brake. There is a lot to be said for maintaining a stock truck and that is my goal.
I am sure that I would be happy with the stock power. Maybe some gauges and a turbo timer..but that would be about it.
The new DTC sounds like another warranty voiding aid to me. Something like if Ford finds this code, instant mods=no warranty...I cant wait to see how this weaves itself in.

I have had an 04 Chevy duramax and I now own an F-250 6.0. I chipped both diesels and I ruined both of them !!! I will be ordering a new 08 F-250 on Monday and I will leave this one alone !!! NO MODS!!! I have learned my lesson. As it sets, a 6.0 has plenty of power to pull my 15,000lbs 5er and now with this 6.4 having even more power? No way !! keep it simple and I know this new diesel will live a very long problem free life.
The training I just got had many answers. Remember how you just disconnect the batteries and that cleared KAM, The 6.4 doesnt clear everything. Some "information" is left alone. Was this told to me? Nope, we had an 08 there to experiment with. This puppy is even more technical than the 6.0. For instance, there is temperature sensors pre, and post diesel oxidation catalyst, diesel particulate filter, and egr coolers. The pcm sees readings from these and makes adjustments for turbo actuator duty cycle, egr, fuel. There is enough heat in the exhaust during regeneration cycles to set rubber exhaust hoses afire!(techs, get your service manager to get metal hoses)
With all the geniuses out there, and they all don't work for FMC, I am sure they will find a way around this. But like I said, I will not mod my truck in any way ! I blew up my 6.0 and on my Duramax, I ruined my tranny and 4 wheel drive system. My 6.0 has all the power I need to pull my 15,000lb 5er thru the mountains and I am sure the 6.4 will have even more to offer.............
We've been working on this issue for quite some time. Luckily good ole FMC isn't quite as sharp as they would envision themselves.
I actually want you to be right. I just want everyone to know that if there is any glitches in the performance programming, it will cost the customer a lot of money if it can be seen.

You are absolutely right. There is no room for error as we have had to work with in the past.
It will REQUIRE tuning to modify the exhaust system in any way too; but believe it or not the pyrometers and regeneration pressure sensors are actually kind of nice to have on the truck for tuning purposes.
From what I can gather (after shooting the breeze with a hotline engineer while he was rebooting his PC), we as technicians may not be able to determine if a truck has been tuned or not, but the PCM will store information that can be retrived by the good folks at FOMOCO. What I basically understood was that if we were to retrieve that DTC, or to suspect tuning that the PCM could be sent out to be checked (for now), and eventually they want to be able to connect online through our scan tools and retrieve information. It seems that they want keep control of the situation, because if we have access to it, we can manipulate it. I guess they don't really trust all of use either.
