Guys, just created a new gallery entry for my recently purchased 52 M1 P/U and cant find it in the list. How long does it take for it to appear? Bought it from my Grandfather-in-laws' brother without seeing it, for $550 CAN. He told me it was complete but some of the sheetmetal was in the box, so the condition is not a surprise to me. To confess, this is my first restoration and i think i have thrown myself firmly in at the deep end. So, i will be seeking lots of advice on the way to approach it so please, be patient with all the bone questions. Thanks in advance for all your help, Guys.
A restoration? You have a long hard road ahead I'm afraid. Practically need to jack up the radiator cap and put a new truck under it... no wait, there is no radiator cap either.
Welcome to the board!!
I can see your gallery just fine. Man you sure have a pile of parts. Do you have any of the chrome? that will be the hard part to find as the Mercury trucks had fancy chrome that the Fords didn't have.
Well, you have a lot of work ahead of your for sure. It may be more worthwhile to find a better candidate and use this one for parts. I had bought a 51 Ford F-1 as my first project and it was in slightly better shape. I counted all the parts that were missing and found if would be much easier and cheaper to use it for parts. I later found a '51 Mercury M-3 and the rest is history. You gallery will get hidden from the main gallery since it's not a finished truck but we can still access it from the forum.
Bobby, The 51-52 trucks didn't have any of the fancy trim the 48-50 trucks have.
I'm knee deep in my first project as well. Also a '52 M1. The only advantage I had is mine was all together when I bought it. Should makle it easier to put it all back together.......one day........ Your sheet metal appears to be in better shape than mine was. I will be replacing.......well almost evrything really....I think the tailgate is good. Did you get the trim with it? The "MERCURY" lettering that goes on the panel above the grill are probably the hardest peices to find. Do you live in Ontario?
Holy Cow!! This post makes me feel better amount my project. I thought I was getting in to deep when I got into my first project (3 years ago and still working on it). But after seeing this I feel like my truck was almost done when I got.
Did it come with all the nuts, bolts, screws and misc hardware to put it back together? They probably aren't labeled if you did get them. I think that as someone else suggested you shoud use this as a parts truck and try to find an intact but restorable truck. Good luck.
Just be aware that something like this is going to take some time, if you do it all yourself. But there's nothing like the pride you'll have starting it up the first time, and driving it down the driveway the first time!
That's quite a project indeed! I thought mine was bad when I started it but you have me beat. It will take you a good summer to get yours to where mine started. Perhaps looking for one a little better and using this for a parts truck would not be a bad idea.
