About 2 weeks ago my truck was hard starting. Creanked over a lot, 10-15 seconds, before firing. Warm weather or cold it acted the same. Well just as I get ready to take it into the dealer to check it out, it starts starting okay again. Turns over for about 3-5 seconds then fires. I checked the GPR and it was fine. Could it have been some funky fuel? It got down to 1/2 a tank and I refilled her and a day or so later it's starting better.
According to Diesel Power magazine (an older issue from a while back) bad fuel accounts for an outrageous like 70% of all problems in diesels.
If you happened to pump some diesel that had gasoline mixed in with it, or maybe even water, you could definitely run into some poor idle, poor acceleration, and hard starting problems.
My dad pumped some bad diesel once in his cummins, and the truck wouldn't even run on it.
If I were you (before I take it to a dealer) I would take it out and burn some fuel, and fuel it up again once more to see if anything improves.
