How's everyone doing? I hope everyone's new year is off to a good start. Awhile back I posted a thread regarding my hand made grill encouraging feedback from all. The response was great I did take advise and put a blue oval ford logo 7" x 2 1/2" in the center of the mesh I'll have a photo later as soon as I upload it. At the most recent car/truck show I attended I asked for similar feedback with the blue oval attached the response was great very favorable.. ...However... As I was looking at the grill from afar, I wasn't quite feeling it, so after long thought I decided to go with a 66 grill problem is the repro ones are not available at this time, it might be another 3-4 months before we can get one, so I'll have to wait for it. Anyway's I want to thank everyone for the feedback I received good bad and indifferent, your words were heard loud and clear. Thanks again.
Picture is in my gallery titled hand made grill.

gangstakr,
Dennis Carpenter sells repro 66 grills. If I remember correctly they go for around $450.00
True, however they don't have any now, expecting to get them in about 3-4 months I talked to Ricky and he put me on a list to guarantee that price regardless if his prices go up. but thanks for the response.
The steel ones were OEM, the panited grills that came in these trucks. Sense they are steel they are heavier. I have a steel 66 and a 65, when I can aford the cost I'm going to have the 66 crome plated and replace the alumium one.
Appreciate that you are putting so much thought into your grille selection. I wasn't a fan of the mesh one, but to each his own. Looks like you decided the oe grille is the way to fly. I think it's a very distinctive part of our trucks and it's one of the things I have really never seen anyone improve upon.
A used steel grille offers a lot of possibilities such as chroming or powder coating as noted. The aluminum is stuck with just being aluminum, and is a much thinner material. The repro ones are quite nice, however. I'm actually pleased to hear they are sold out of the last batch as it means people weren't afraid to buy them even at the slightly painful price. Now if only DC can find the original tooling to crank out a few hoods...
I wonder what the shipping costs would be to ship hoods from here on the "left" coast east. The reason I ask that, is...believe it or not, I've never seen a rust out 61-66 hood. In fact, I've never seen rust outs on any Slick sheetmetal. The only rust I've seen is surface rust on the right side cab floor and roof seams.
i'd just like to post my opinion, and that is, i think that mesh grill looks very promising, however, the transition from the mesh into the frame of the grill is awkward, i cant think of anything you could really do, except a piece of strip steel in between the grill and mesh. but it doesnt matter what you put up there that truck is going to look nice. as far as original grill's go, i really like the 65, and mine was an aluminum poiece, on a farm truck that drove it's whole life on bad roads, and miracously only had a couple litle dings. i really wish there was someone who was reproducing 65 grills. just my opinion though
o, ps, the mesh grill looked nice with the oval in it too. helped to distract from the edge issue
