Around me the prices are like this, per axle...
$150 - 200 for the gear set
$100 - 200 for the install kit, depending on what level kit you get (basic - master)
$300 - 600 for labor. This depends on it it's just a gear / diff swap or if you're getting sexy with an ARB, ElecTrac or ECTED.
So anywhere between $550 - 1000 per axle is normal.
If you're doing gears, you might as well do a good locker out back and at least an LSD up front. You won't be dissapointed with the results. Price on those is gonna depend on what you get. $300 for a Lockrite, up to $850 for an ARB.

I'm about 70 miles south of the city.
I do gears as a side thing along with all sorts of off-road mods.
