My PS is not working very well at all when I am stationary. It seems to get better after 10 minutes of driving. Any suggestions and or projections as to how much it would cost if a replacement is needed.
Have you checked the fluid? Mine started making a whining noise last year and it was low....not sure why cause I have never had a leak or anything. Do you have stock tires?
Stock tires for now (installing 315/70s tomorrow) and I added some fluid as a result of this issue but not any better.
It will be worse with the 315's, the contact patch of the 315's are roughly twice the size of the contact patch of say a 265/75/16, thus making that much more resistant friction that the pump will have to turn.
How are your Brakes?
since the P/S pump also pressurizes the hydroboost for the brakes, check all fittings and hoses off the P/S pump to make sure no leaky or no crimps.
If all of the above is good then you might want to flush your P/S system and add some conditioner as well as replace the fluid.
