I am looking to move my fuel tank under the bed. I am trying to find a source that isn't going to charge 700 for the kit. I am willing to spend a little money but that is way out there. I have heard about using an old mustang tank but I cant find any specifics. ANY SUGGESTIONS?
Take a few minutes and think about the whole package. What kind of guages are you going to be using, carburated or injected, where you would like the fuel filler to be, etc.
It really helps to have the tank and gauge from the same make of vehicle.
Some tanks are filled through the bed floor (Mustang) some on the drivers side (Bronco) some on the passengers side (GM van and Blazer). So you need to take into account of a fuel filler door, etc. Look at Randy's gallery about the Bronco install...SWEET!!!!!
I cheated a bit on my Blazer install. I used the chrome marine style fuel filler neck cut into the passenger side rear fender (you might be able to see it in one of my galleries)
I built my own x-members and used all of the factory straps from the donor vehicle to make it easy.
Once you figure out what style tank, etc you can usually do the swap fairly cheaply. There are several vendors for fuel tanks. An internet search should give you plenty of options. Eitehr that or buy a complete unit from a wrecking yard. http://www.gastanks.com/ http://www.spectrapremium.com/spectra.html
Thanks to all for the insight. That is what I needed. I think I will use a bed fill setup similiar to the cougar install. What is everyone doing with the exhaust?

Thanks Again Dennis
I use side dump exaust. No routing problems there.
However, if I had wanted to go out the back, it gets tight trying to get over the axle, then under the tank sides, but I have seen it done nicely. The best way I saw ran the pipes along and just under the frame rails aft of the tank.
I eventually want to run my exhaust all the way out the back as Randy described.
Right now I 2 1/2" pipes running straight back and through some turbos and then dumping down in front of the rear diff. (the pipes and turbos were salvage from an abandoned project of my brothers....I love a good deal)
Is there a way to have the filler behind the flip down lic plate? I don`t want to have a hole in the box floor or a fender unless it`s not possible to use the lic area. I was thinking of using a Mustang gas tank by modifying the neck to come out back, I think I may have to drop the tank down abit to be able to do it this way.

I wonder how a 67 - 69 Camaro tank would work? They were rear fill. I have a friend that has a Reese hitch behind a license plate. It works nice!
It would depend on the length of the Comaro tank`s neck.
Most likely it too would have to be altered as it could be too long.
The Mustang tank has a rubber connecting hose and I`m assuming the Comaro is a metal neck so the Mustang one maybe easier to work with. It also depends if the Camaro tank is as narrow.

Besides, I like keeping as many Ford parts as I can. Even if the Ford CEO said "We need to make our trucks like Toyota".
