352 Engine Transmission

I have been told that the 352 is an FE Engine and a C-6 will match up with the block. They tell me that that the 352, 360 and 390 FE Engines are the only one that will match up.

Does anyone have experience with this?

Yes it will change overe. BUT.....All FE engines have a round bell housing casting. Make sure the transmission bell housing is round and not flat on the top (that is, a straight line between the top two mounting holes). The transmission is the same but some of the bell housing castings are different.
Everything else is a direct changeover.

Thanks for the info.

One question, if the bell housing is not correct can we swap it over also?

All C6 transmissions are a 2 piece unit. The Bellhousing is part of the main case with a tailshaft section is separate.

From what I understand, an FE is an FE is an FE... so I'll relate my experience. I just put a c6 in my '68 to replace the ailing 3-spd. If you get a c6 that was originally on an FE it will mate with your block. If it was on something else, 302, 351, 400, it won't. I took a tranny from a 70 f250 with a 390 and it bolted right up. Incidentally, if you have a 3-spd in your truck now, you'll probably have to grind or burn the rivets out that hold in the rear crossmember. It's gotta come out to get the 1-piece c6 in and it's rivetted in on manual tranny trucks. If you already have another automatic, it may be bolted in. All based on my experience with my '68.

Thanks for the Info. I guess we will have to try and mate them before we go any further. I just have to wait until the block is back from the Shop. We have a few months yet but we have to weld in the 352 mount soon. I have heard that there is a problem with the same crossmember you have mentioned in regard to getting to C-6 Pan. We have a couple of Tranmission options.

After I find out for sure, I will post it on the board. If we have to do any mods I will post that concurrently.

Thanks for the help.

Don't weld in your transmission mount. Drill and bolt it so you can remove the transmission later if you have to. Trans-adapt makes the motor mount adapter for the FE into older Ford Trucks, but it takes a special motor mount, from an old T-bird I think. You can get both from Dennis Carpenter Reproductions.
Good luck

352 engine

There was also a 428 engine, and maybe a 332 and 410 (They might have been a rebuild option). I also believe that the auto trannys from 1965 and before could still be push started but I could be wrong.
