I have a 98 Explorer Sport and my rear windshield wiper has quit on me. I hear a noise when i cut it on, sounds like the motor running, hitting it's point and coming back, i can't tell if its the motor or just an electrical sound. It was working sometimes and then wouldn't work others, and now it has just died completely. Any ideas? It's not a big deal, but it is kind of frustrating when it's pouring down and i can see absolutely nothing out the back. Thanks for your help.
It won't move at all, i turned it on and went back there and it didn't move at all. I pulled it off the back end of the rear door, and it still went no where.
Check your fuses, if it's not a fuse, then you might need a new motor. To me, it sounds like the motor is fried. Same thing happend to me on my old Durango, and it turned out to be a blown motor.
There's a liftgate wiper disable switch right at the latch that prevents the wiper from working when the glass is open. I thought my motor was toast too but the disable switch had corroded in the open position which prevented the wiper from working. I went to the bone yard and got a new latch and disable switch for $2. Hopefully your problem is the same as mine. Super easy fix.
my rear wiper stopped working to. the motor is shot.... soo what i did is i took out the rear wiper fluid tank... washed it out real good..... ran a plastic hose from the pump to the front of my car comming out of the dash and filled the tank with vodka......now when im at a party i just go out and buy... gatorade.. or sobe drinks..(cops cant do **** if they pull u over with open gatorade in the car) i just fill with vodka as needed....all of my friends were amazed....
