Ok I put my new timing chain on and now truck will not start. Do I need to adjust the timing at the distributor by turning it or is it something else. Also my water pump is leaking. It don't appear to be leaking from the gasket because it's coming out pretty steady I reused the old pump and cleaned the gasket off with a wire cup brush and then cleaned with brake cleaner. So my question is could I have damaged the seal in the pump and cause it to be leaking out of the weep hole.
On the water pump, -yes it could have been damaged. Always replace the water pump and the thermostatic clutch fan at the same time. Apparently a bad bearing in either one can destroy the other.
Make sure you get the timing chain timing correct. Then you will need to reset the distributor.
Make sure to align the timing marks up with each other. The gear on the cam should have a dot that should point down. The gear on the crankshaft has a dot that will point up. Align these two dots togather. That will time the enging on TDC (top dead center) on the compression stroke.
You may still need to adjust the distributer. Start over with a new waterpump gasket, pump too if you have the money, apply a bead of good silicone and install. After all serfaces are clean.

I am pretty sure I have the timing chain on right both marks were lined up. I just can't get the distributor to break free. And on the water pump I did not put a bead of silicone. I just figured the gasket would be goo enough. Will black silicon be good enough to use thats what I used on the timing chain cover. Thanks for the help so far, I will eventually get it running.
If water pump gaskets where new thy need only thread to hold them in place. If you use RTV red or black ya still need to tie gaskets on with thread so they won't slip or let it set up for a few hours (use on pump side only and it will come of easier the next time).
Timing: If ya had the timing lined up right than it would start as you have not changed the timing, only the parts. Turning the dizzy is what ya do when fine tuning with timing light. My guess is you are 180 degrees out of time.
One thing I did notice is when I was at TDC the rotor button was not pointing at the number 1 position. From my understanding this is not right so the dizzy would have to be turned. Right or wrong? Water pump:The gaskets I put on were new. What I did was put a couple of dabs of RTV sealant to hold the gasket to the water pump let it sit over night then I put it on the next morning.
NO if you are at TDC the rotor will point at #1. If it doesn't you are 180 out. Do it over and this time make sure the rotor is pointing at #1 when at TDC. You can move the wires around the cap and make it run this way but it ain't right and will run like crap.
The distributor will need to be loosened and the engine timed. If the timing chain was off due to wear etc the engine will be a number of degrees out of time. Just parts tolerances can move it some. Use anti-seize on the distributor where it fits in the block.
Do not use a couple drops of RTV and let is sit overnight. That creates a high spot on the sealing surface. Use some high tack gasket adhesive on the pump side only to hold the gasket in place during assy. Use a little silicone dielectric grease or regular grease on the block side to make it come off easy next time.
If coolant is coming out of the weep hole the pump is bad.
