i have a 2000 f250 7.3 p.s. that just recently started giving me troubles starting. it's not all the time but is happening more frequently. when i turn the key to wait to start it makes a clicking noise and acts as if it is not getting fuel. it has 150k on it with no upgrades and no previous proplems. sometimes if i let it sit for a couple of hours it will start and not be a proplem for a couple of weeks. any help would be appreciated. i will give more info if needed. thanks.
My truck started doing this and my batterys were toasted. What i think was happening was one of my relays would not click over(i traced the noise to the fuse box). After one attempt where i could not stand the click i decided to try to "jump" my truck and the clicking went away and the truck started without a problem. Get the batteries load tested!
My dad's 01 did the same thing from one battery not being able to hold the amp load and wouldnt start. Sometimes it would be sitting at idle and just die and be hard as hell to refire. Changed the batteries and no more problems.
Poor connections will act like a bad battery. They will carry a good voltage reading, but as soon as it needs to carry a lot of AMPS then it falls flat on it's face and act like a dead battery.
I took both batterys out of the truck to load test. I did clean up all connections to both batterys. I will keep trying to see if it won't start. It only won't start whenever it wants too....

EVERY connection must be clean and tight.
If your batteries are good and it's acting like that 99% of the time there is a bad connection somewhere. Doesn't matter what brand of vehicle it is.
My dad's 01 doesnt hold oil in the upper end of the motor real well and when you start it if you dont rev it a bit it will die and not restart for a while till you crank on it long enough to prime the injectors again. Maybe you have similar problem. Also on our 95 that we had, we had a chip in it and the contacts became dirty and caused a no start problem on occasion but it would also randomly die as you were driving which was a real pain in the butt if you were hauling a trailer down the interstate at 75 mph. Just throwing out ideas here. Hope you find the problem soon.
