Used X PSD without Catalytic Converter?
Howdy,
I was talking a friend who recently purchased a used '03 X PSD. His X was first bought in Ohio and then somehow made its way to Texas where he bought it used. My friend claims this vehicle didn't have a catalytic converter?
My county, city, or state (Travis County, Austin, TX) recently instituted emission controls/validation as part of the annual vehicle inspection. Do I need to worry about or ensure any used X with a PSD needs to have a catalytic converter? I would have thought such a device is standard on all U.S. vehicles (at least consumer oriented vehicles).
One of the vehicles I have my eye on is in New Mexico and don't want to have spend extra $$$ to add some additional devices to make it comply with new emission expectations if it doesn't have a catalytic converter.
Perhaps I am being paranoid or my friend's X is just a special case and someone removed the catalytic converter (or he is mistaken and it still has the device).
Anyone have any insight?
Thank you very much,
Carlton

I would check with the testing authority......you may end up putting a cat back on. I don't this this should hinder your purchase, just be prepared to have one put on.
