painless wiring has one but its kinda pricey, and carquest has one and its kinda too cheap.
Can anyone tell me what I should be looking for and how I should choose the best one for me.
I'm already running dual electric fans, using about 40 amps on a stock 60 amp alternator, and in the future I plan to run off road lights, winch, etc.
I checked my local auto parts store and they have the 60 amp replacement or a 100 amp, but its physically bigger, and would need to modify brackets, belts, etc. anyone know where I can get a beefier alt. without modifications or buying a $300-$400 powermaster alt.
Also is there a general rule on alt output vs isolator amperage vs load
Sorry so long, but electricals my weakest subject.
76' Crew, It's not clear what your trying to do.
Do you have a dual battery setup and you have damaged your isolator and/or Altenator ?
Or...do you just want to add a second battery and upgrade your altenator?
A 100A alt. sounds like a good idea if you will be adding off road lites. You can use an isolator to connect a second battery, I have had good luck with one made by Warn (the winch makers). Or you can use a starter solenoid to connect the battery as required. I believe Ford used the solenoid, search for dual battery on this forum and you should be able to find the set up.

I agree it's a little unclear. I am assuming you are going to add a second battery? If you do add the second battery and the isolator, you can probably get away with using your stock alternator. Also, if you add second battery, with all those different loads you are going to need an aux fuse box, or add some fusible links for some of that stuff off the second battery.
I'm looking to add a second battery.
I want to know what my alt. output should be compared to my isolator rating and load use, or should I get all the spec numbers as close to each other as possible.
