I want to add some aftermarket fog lights to my 2005 F150 SuperCab. Any suggestions on what to do with the switch? I was hoping to make it as unobtrusive as possible. I don't want to drill any holes or make any other permanent changes.
A magnetic reed switch and a relay works good for "stealth" switches. Of course you have to keep the magnet somewhere handy so you can activate the reed switch. They don't turn off until you shut the truck off.
That is a good idea. What I was hoping for was a blank that I could order and put in a standard switch. For example, in my wife's car, they have blanks where an accessory would go. I have heard you can also buy something similar for a F150, but I don't even see anywhere where it we possibly go. Once I figure out soemthing, I will let everybody know.
Do you think I would have more luck posting in the 2004-2007 Truck forum?
I have my switch for my driving lights hanging over the cigarette lighter. Somewhat stupid looking, but I still haven't figuered out where I want it, and dont really want to drill any holes.
If you can find a wiring diagram, maybe all of the trucks come with fog light provisions in the hardness? If they do, it is likely you could swap headlight switches and look totally factory.
That would be even better. The one advantage to using a custom solution is that I could operate the fog lights at the same time as the high beams. My goal is to get more light for when I am coming out of the woods.
If you get the wiring diagram, you will be able to wire the fog lights to the switch; however, you will have to upgrade the switch to the one that will also control the fog lights. Just like it came from the factory that way..........
