Mag-Hytec/10.5 diff

My mag-hytec diff cover is on it's way, and I already have 3qts of royal purple 90w-140. Stock capacity is just shy of 2.5qts, but does anyone know the capacity with a mag-hytec?

Do I need one or two more qts?

On the theory that they'd be on par, I got a finned aluminum cover for my 10.5 and it was just a touch under 4 quarts to fill the whole deal.

I have no clue, just pour until it brims over! then you're good, I'm guessing 3.5-4.5 qts.

but to pour, you must have it one hand and no one locally stocks royal purple (mine is a day out.) I would hate to short the mechanic installing my gears.

It is just about double stock amount, I would have 5 or 6 Qts in hand before starting the swap.

I seem to remember putting 5.5-5.75 in mine.
It has a dipstick.

Oh heck ya didnt say gear change. If you're doing both pumpkins and supplying the oil give him 8.
I did the same as you. I got the RP and gave it to the installer so I knew what I was getting.

I have different grades f/r. The manual calls for 90 weight on the front and 90w-140 for the rear. I will have a total of 9 qts tomorrow, I sure hope that does the trick, at 7.50 each it's adding up on an already expensive project.

about 4.5 qts is what we find. as it adds about 2 qts to it.
just make sure your on the flat and level or you will not get it correctly filled and use a full syntec 75w140 ?oil or as ford specs out. sorry about the numbers my mind is just a little short tonight.

Yeah I couldn't remember if is 75 or 90 w-140 either. I had the owners manual out while ordering, so it should be correct.

Thanks for the info.

A dry rear end should take about 6 quarts, and an oil change should be about 5 quarts. I think that amount reaches the top division on the dipstick, but my pinion is also tilted upward.

my mind is now 60 and some things don't stay around on the short term any more. i can remember veitnam but not today or yesterday. plus i just sold my 05 super duty and started playing with a 07 mustang for kicks. man that rear holds almost nothing compaired to a super duty. your going to like that cover with the dip stick and temp sender plug already in it.
