transmission question

1978 Step Side purchased three weeks ago. 302 with auto trans. Body is in great shape, runs good, seems to shift when it's supposed to. Idle is up when in park, but idles fine when in gear. Truck seems to want to pull when stopped and in gear. Occassionally I get run on when I turn the ignition off. Today it pulled a little harder than usual when at a light. Any thoughts?

Idle speed too high, needs a tuneup and carb adjustments.

yeah i had that issue on my 82, it ended i had to change out the carb. it was idling at 1000+ in gear and about 1400-1500 in park/nuetral. I couldn't get it to slow for anything, even put a huge spring on it for return. some of the carbs fuel/air mix screws aren't adjustable, which was my case.

I got the same problem in my 78 351m. Only when its cold. It wants to jump at lights too. After the engine warms up its fine. Winter is kinda rough with price of gas but if we get a warm day she perrrrrrs like a kitten. Summer time its got a nice smooth idle. Adjust it oneway in the winter and adjust it back in the winter. Arrrrrgh!
