Disarm Auto Dome Light

Anyone know of a way to keep the lights functioning when the doors are opened or switch turned on, but keep the lights from coming on when the truck is turned off ? Maybe through the computer system?
I know I could simply pull the bulbs or wire a switch in to turn it off when I want, but I would like for the lights to come on when the door is opened. I don't want to have to worry about finding & turning on or off a switch.
I have a 2004 F-250, but my wife has a 2005 F-150 Supercrew & the dome light comes on on both of them. I have been through the manuals on both trucks and cannot find anyway of doing away with it.
I stopped & talked to the dealer last Saturday. He checked into it, called me back & said he couldn't find out if it could be disabled or not. he said the best he could do was hook it up to the computer and see if they could find a way. That kind of scares me. I've been a member of the Dieselstop forum for years, and have seen many, many messages from members who took their truck in to a dealers for something minor only to have the dealer install the "latest, greatest"
software update while it was there. Almost all were not pleased when they found out their truck didn't have as much power, or got worse fuel mileage, or the tranny didn't shift right, after they got it back. Mine is running great and I don't want them to screw it up. I've known this dealer (the owner) personally for years, but you can't ever tell what the mechanic will do while it's back in the shop.
I understand that. I also have a 2005 Chev. Aveo. Went in for an oil change. Dealer had a safty update for the computer, loaded it and everything went dead. After numerous calls
to Detroit including sending the box they gave up. Had to order one from overseas. Had my ride for two weeks
. Be afraid, be very afraid.

and I agree, I hate
this autolight feature. You make a good target in the dark. Any ideas on how to turn it off?
