I have 1999 F350 Dsl CC LB SRW with 245,000 miles and live in northern Wisconsin,
My question is: Now that is is winter on the colder mornings untill the engine is completely warmed up I hear an air leak from under the hood while just driving along or as soon and I let off of the throttle. It sounds as if air might be passing by the wastegate valve. Does anyone out there seem to hear the same thing? Is it something I should worry about?

That is normal. Your truck is retaining exhaust to keep the engine operating temperature up to par. I believe this is partially controlled by the Exhaust Backpressure Sensor. This ensures that your engine is at a suitable operating temperature and isn't running too cool. Since diesel engines have no spark to combust the fuel, they rely solely on compression. If the temperature inside the cylinders isn't high enough, your engine will not run properly. Once your truck is up to temperature, the noise should go away. Anybody chime in to correct me if I'm mistaken or to add anything if they like.
Thank You for the reply. It just didn't seem as noticeable in the past years. plus I mostly drove a company vehicle the last two years. Just to let you know we only have about 4" of snow on the ground here.

I was the same way when I first got my 7.3 two years ago. Anytime I heard a noise, I got worried lol. Your truck will tend to do it more if you don't let it heat up long enough in the cold weather. Enjoy the 7.3!
