Just bought a used 02 F250 4x4 w/PSD 8" lift in front and 4 in the back 315 70R17 BFG's. The right front hub went out. Got that repaired and my wife went to pick the truck up and didn't make it 30mi and the left front tire came off. The lug nuts just came off. It has custom rims. The place that is working on it had a guy from an off road shop come and look at it and he told them that with those tires and rims and lift that the front rotors should have been the kind that are drilled and cross hatched and upsized and should have ceramic pads. His explanation was that the stock rotors won't handle the heat and that they warped causing vibration causing the lug nuts to come off. The rims are the inverted type. He also said that all I need to change is the front ones. The Ford dealer that I bought it from says that this is a bunch of bull as they have lifts done all of the time but I haven't seen any with this type of rim. Just wanted to get some opinions before I decide what to do with the truck. I have only put 4000mi on the truck since I bought it in Nov. it has 80000 total mi.
PS I didn't feel any vibration before all of this happened.
It sounds to me like they did not tighten the lugs right. You say you only got about 30Mi down the road after they worked on it. They are trying to cover up what realy is the problem.. Good luck

I second that.... They are just blowing smoke and not owning up to their mistake..
They screwed up for sure and the fool from the off road shop should never be allowed to touch a truck again along with the shop that was working on it. I hate it when shops try to get over on people. Just own up to it!
Take a look at the millions of trucks out there with lifts and oversize tires. Not that this is a good idea, but in general, those trucks are doing just fine with factory stock rotors etc.
That guy was tap dancing in the hopes that you didn't pin the blame where it belonged.
Did the lug nuts come off or did the wheel and rotor/drum come off as one piece? I could almost say it was a mechanical problem if the wheel and rotor were still tied together with the lug nuts intact. If the lug nuts were off, then someone goofed big time.
Usually when the lug nuts get loose, there is a lot of vibration or rumbling, been there done that. If the rotor and hub are failing there is usually even more noise and rough riding.
