Now thats a linclon, if they would start building cars like that, they could put caddy back in thier place. There's so much that could be done with the linclon nameplate if they would just do the work. Lincoln and mercury both have a great heritage and could be great again if ford would just invest some time and money and let thier design teams have at it.
The Dodge Brothers built Model T engines, and other mechanical stuff for Ford .. 1908-1913.
When Henry Ford started his first company. his backers brought in Henry Martyn Leland from the Colt Pat'd Firearms Manufacturing Company to become Chief Engineer.
Ford fought with Leland, and soon left the company. Leland took the first company designed car, named it Cadillac...and the rest is history. The company was named after the founder of Detroit, Walther de la Motte Cadillac.
In 1916, Leland started his own company...he named it after his favorite President. The Lincoln Motor Car Company was born. The company built Liberty V12 aircraft engines during WWI, and introduced their first car in 1921. It was a failure...due to horrid styling and the Recession of 1921.
Leland declared bankrupcy and the company went on the auction block. The only bidder was...Henry Ford.
