It's every 30k you need to replace your tranny oil. I would be a little cautious about a shop that says you don't need it but every 100k. For a car maybe, but not for a truck that is expected to be hauling stuff and hitting some pretty good temps while hauling.
BB the two times I drained my HFCM - it ran out until I closed it cuz the two 3 liter bottles I had were full....
can't imagine the itty bitty fuel filter holding that much

Wow... that is a lot of fuel to drain out.
Keep in mind that any water that MAY be in the HFCM housing will drain out first in the first few seconds... as oil (fuel) floats on top of water. The HFCM drain is the single lowest point of the fuel system.. and where water will collect. I would drain for no more than 1 minute to ensure all flows out then just shut it off.
Remove filter cap and replace the HFCM filter as required. My dealer tech told me that changing the filter does not remove or drain any water in the HFCM... so always drain first, then do the filter change.

Keep in mind though that if you stop the drain early and then take the fuel filter off, you are in for a bigger diesel bath out that end
