What's the diff?
I'm not real familiar with the 53-55's, more of a sixties and early 70s guys. Is there any major difference between the 53, 54, and 55's, other than the grill's and retirement of the flathead V8. I am looking around for one, and was just wondering. Thanks

Brent, Other than what you mentioned, I don't think there were any real major differences between the years "53-"55, except the hood side emblems. In '56, they changed to a more "wrap around" type windshield.

Thanks Kenny I know the 56 is different, but just the windsheild like you said. I just wanted to know incase I stumbled upon at a junkyard. Because I like the look of the 55 grill over the 53 and 54. And I like the look of the 56 cab.

Guys, there are differences beyond just the windshield between '56 and the '53 to '55. The electrical system is 12 volts not 6 and they changed headlight switches, gages and the wiring harness among other things. I'm having a helluva time going through the wiring on my 56! It looks like one of the previous owners swapped out the wiring from a 55 into mine. What a mess, nothing works right, but I still love this truck. I'll be rewiring this winter. The interior is also very different. Lots of fun!

Hi Craig, You are correct. I was only refering to major differences between the 53-55's, and the major cab difference on the '56. Thank you for pointing out these other items too.

Thats what great about these forums, if a person doesn't mention everything another person picks up where they left off. Now that I think about it I did realize the interior was different on the 56. Thanks Craig, I am restoring a 69 now, but one day I also hope to have a 56.
