9 inch rear end

I've seen several F-1 1950s displayed on this page...they mention puting in a 9 inch rear end for better highway speed, but do not state the year and model they came out of. Can anyone enlighten me??

9 inch rear end

I used a rear end from a 57 Ford pickup. I think that 57 to 62 are the same. It is almost a bolt in as the brakes are the same and the earlier parking brake cables will fit into the later backing plate. The spring pads are the same width although they are angled differently (about 10 degrees). I used (2) 5 degree caster adjusting shims on each side with JB weld between them to help prevent slipping. The spring center bolt also needs a spacer to lengthen the head. The spring pads could be cut off and moved but mine had much weld on them. I then changed the center section to the ratio I wanted.

I have a 1960 F100, from what you say, the stock rear end is a 9inch? I've been trying to find that out but no one seems to know. Was the 9inch standard in all pickups after 1957? Or is there another possibility of what it could be? Is it the same as newer 9" rears? Can I pick up a summit or jegs catalog and order standard 9" parts or positractions?

TJ:
I believe all 57-60 F-100'S used a 28 spline 9 inch rear. F-250'S used a Dana 60.
I have 2 59's and a 60 F100 4x4 and these all have 28 spline 9 inch rears.
Center sections from later model 9 inch rears will interchange as long as you are aware of your axle spline count.

I was told the 67-72 f-100 were correct for the f-1 replacement. That's what I did, currently have 3 degrees of shim in it, don't see a need to add but 1-3 more degrees
