i just was backing out of a parking place and turned the wheel to sharp and scraped the side of a van...i scuffed my bumper about 6 inches long...its all the way to the gray stuff ...will i need to get the whole bumper re painted or what...??? and how much do you think itll cost? im keeping everything away from insurance and the lady is nice enough to let me pay out of pocket

Most shops are probably gonna wanna paint the whole thing because it's pretty difficult to match paint exactly. That's not too bad though, prolly about $175 for the whole deal cause they'll sand it down and re-paint the entire thing. THat's not too bad if you keep it away from the death-traps that label themselves insurance. You could touch it up yourself if you knew what you're doing and save some cash... but whatever you wanna do.

From my experience, sglynx1 is on the money. They will sand the whole thing to repaint because it it too tough to make a blend match perfectly. I would not decide solely on price. You do get what you pay for. Look more for a shops reputation and how he backs his work. In the long run, it's out of pocket and no insurance involved, so you are ahead probably.
