I want to put a locker in the front of my 79 f150,I am running Swamper Iroks 39.5x 13.5x16. My 9 inch is already equipped with one and havent had any probs with the axles in 2 yrs. Mostly just do mudding , lite trails. I was wondering how the dana 44 stock axles hold up with a locker in the front under the application that I just stated. Motor is a 460 with L&L headers, Rv CAM, 750 Edelbrock 4bbl, hei dist, with 456 gearing.
Thanks

Wander over to titantalk.com and see the 100's of front/rear end complaints that truck is having.
Titans use Dana 44's front and rear on 4X4's, on the rear only on 4X2's.
Most of the exploding front/rear ends are on modded trucks.
Dana 44 axles can handle an amazing amount of power, when going in a straight line (900+hp for several years until I broke them finally) But locked or not locked you start turning and putting power to them and they will snap like twigs in a heart beat. Best bet is to upgrade to at least a set of chromoly axles or upgrade to 1 ton stuff, especially running 39.5s (actually anything over 35s is pushing it)
I beat the heck out my 79 brnc(400) and 77 stepside(450hp 460 mud racer) frt open w/38.5s on 77 no problems except for one set of spider caused by full throttle hill climb w/tires off the ground. Now the brnc has a power lock and 38.5.s broken three lft side axles. Now I have 4130 shafts and no problems. Dont buy into the 60 trend your coil suspension is way nicer riding and if you play in the mud the ground clearence and lighter weight is nice and for the price and fabrication of a 60 you can build a bomb proof 44.
