My new to me 1992 crew cab 350 evidently has leaking injectors. No start up problems, but you can see it wet in the area, and can definately smell it when you stop the truck.
I tech friend mentioned I should get a set of injectors and return lines???
Any recommendation on injectors. Stock or aftermarket??? If aftermarket, what are some good companies.
If its running good, starting good, and doesnt smoke at idle, you don't need new injectors, what you do need sounds like new orings under the plastic caps on the return line system. Best to do the hoses at the same time. Return line kits are available on e-bay for very reasoable cost(search 7.3 return line), includes new plastic caps, or just get new o-rings and hose at most parts suppliers.
I agree with the above post. I just bought a new set of injectors and a return line kit on ebay. The return line kit was about twenty five bucks or so, and the new o-rings and lines stopped all leaking. The injectors made the truck run 100% better, the old ones had 155,000 on them. I got a set of new delphi injectors and install kit for $227.00 shipped to my door UPS 2nd day. I forget the name of the seller but he was super cool on the phone and I was very impressed with the parts and service. My ebay name is "clown-shoes" if you go to advanced search and my name in you can click on it and view the items I have recently purchased, the injectors are on the top of the list, here you can find the seller.
I just looked toningt, seems like there is a lot of diesel sitting on top.
If the injectors do leak, will it pool up like that? If not should I replace them anyway? I've had the truck for a grand total of 2 days....and have no idea when they were last replaced.
The injectors themselves cannot leak, except past the return o-rings, or if you had a cracked injector line, in which case you would have a miss. If the injectors and return lines are painted grey they are original. As per my previous post, if its running good, no rough idle, smoke at idle, then you just need to redo the return line system.
Fuel sitting on top of what? If your valley pan is full of fuel, you may want to look at the bottom weap hole on the Injector pump. Thats bad news for the Injector pump- and the truck likely is not running as great as it could be. Hope for just the return line problem, thats easy and cheap to fix. LOL
