After 6 yrs in Motor T in the Corps, and just dealing with 4x's in general from work to friends, the biggest problem most people encounter is not using the 4x enough, and then when they do use it, not being familiar with it. Any amount of torque on any of the gears in the T/Case will make it harder than crap to shift, and that is multiplied if you are trying to go forward with the lever, and you need to go left for the pattern, alot of people, my wife included will shift to 4H rolling, then stop to take it back to 2H, when you have stopped the vehicle, and you still have your foot on the brake, the gears are still bound together, shift to neutral, with your foot OFF the brake then try to ease it out of 4H. 99% of the time, it is the binding of the gears causing the difficulty, not the actual shifter or linkage in my experiences.

Thanks alot everyone. I will test out the theories/methods after my truck gets out of the shop. I took it in to have a Flowmaster system installed and they found water in the oil. Head gasket was bad and so were 2 valves. Should get it back this Friday though and then I will have more questions I sure.
