Took my 06 350 in today for check engine lite and they reflashed it. Now the injectors cycle for about 30 seconds after every engine shutoff. What is this for? They just told me it is the way the new flash works but no reason for the change.
Had my 2004-350 in for servicing and they re-flashed. The injectors recycle after engine is shut off. The Ford folks said this was to improve cold weather start-ups. The recycling empties the injectors to make it easier to start?
I just had mine done not to long ago as well. When u shut down a diesel engine, you are cutting the fuel supply to the engine. When u do this, as the cylinder completes its downward stroke, it is creating a vacum in the cylinder. Ford has found that this vacum is shortening the life of the injectors and as well as the seals. By the injectors firing after the engine has shut down, it allows for the cylinder to receive fuel, thus eliminating the vacum, as well as also making the truck start somewhat easier next time around. If you ask me, I think it is a great idea, seeing as I have already had problems with injectors as it is. Hope this helps you out.
It doesn't remove fuel, it removes oil. The injectors operate with high pressure engine oil. This reflash removes oil to prevent "stiction". It really does help with cold starts.
Whenever a new reflash is added, all the old ones are also included. The previous flashes that caused all the trouble (05-e-17, 06-e-17, I believe) should be completed---clearing KAM then allowing to idle for five minutes to learn strategies for egr and turbo. There is a couple of pids that the tech should be monitoring when doing this. The vehicle shouldnt be released until the vgtlrn pid says "yes" and the vgtle pid reads at least 5 or above (these two are on the 06-e-17) The flash that cycles injectors doesn't cause any trouble. So, if you've had one of the previous two, dont be concerned about driveability issues. If you havent done the "voluntary" flashes, just make sure the tech completes the flash!
I have had this flash done recently, as i took the truck back after the 06e17 flash due to poor fuel mileage. now i know i have a 4" lift and 35's but i was getting 16.5 steady for 4 months w/ this setup until icp sensor went bad, and as a favor my dealer reflashed w/ 06e17 and destroyed my fuel mileage w/out telling me. now they did this flash and i drove to indy this weekend (60miles one way) and i used 1/2 tank and only got 185 miles out of it. and the tank was topped off. anyone else experiencing this w/ the new flash? what can be done for fuel mileage, anything?
The previous flashes that caused all the trouble (05-e-17, 06-e-17, I believe)
Vloney, do I take this to mean that Ford has admitted that the one of these two flashes (I had 05e17 I believe) caused some folks like me to experience an unexplainable drop in fuel economy? I would love to again see 16mpg in the city, instead of 12.
It used to be you had to put on a reflash notification under the hood, but it no longer is required in the US (it is in canada). The only outward evidence is the buzzing after you shut it off. The voluntary recalls (06-e-17, and 05-e-17) leave no visual evidence. All they did was to shut off the egr after 5 minutes idle time, and redo turbo operating strategies (different ones for 03-early 04, and after )
