Reason: spelling
I had the exact same thing happen a couple times at 25 mph. (2000 V10 4X4)After many trips to Ford, it turned out to be the air filter. The cone broke off the top, so the truck was running lean and/or rich depending the where the cone had shifted.
$27 dollars later for a new air filter and the problem was fixed.
I had it happen to mine, Turned out to be the CAM sensor. (2000 7.3 4x4) easy fix, get the sensors from some online store, there $150 bucks at your local parts house..

$100 from an International dealership. He has a gas model. Do they have CPSs in them? Could it be the fuel filter? Is there some sort of idle air circuit in the engine?
After a couple trips to Ford, I did my own research on this site. That led me to also try replacing the Camshaft Position Sensor because they tends to go bad on the Diesel Engines. So I figured I'd give it a try. The part only cost $20, but it's not easy to replace if you are a novice like me. I was so desperate to fix the X, so I paid $120 @ Merchants for them to install the sensor. It didn't do anything. Someone replied to my post that they've never heard of that part going bad on a gas engine.
Ford eventually hooked my X up with a computer for me to use while I drove. As soon as the X "died" or acted up, I pressed a button and it recorded approximately 10 seconds before and after the time I pressed the button. That's what finally helped them figure out that it was the air filter. Since the truck was running lean on the computer and then running rich in the shop.
My wife's Ex has 71k miles, and this problem happened for the very first time about 2 months ago. Freaked her out - she was driving with the kids on the hiway, doing 70mph or so in the 3rd lane and it just died. She was able to pull it over safely and they sat there for about 20 minutes, while I left work to check it out. I had fears of the engine being blown or throwing a plug, etc... I got there and saw no evidence of engine failure. I reached in and she turned over, no problem, started up. At home, I put on my OBD-II reader - no codes. I left it hooked up and swapped cars with her for a few days - no problems, no codes. This was the only time this every happened. I'll check out the air filter - we have a K&N like fliter (full Banks Kit).
This is the kinda thing that made me iffy about buying a ford.
I'm really a GM guy, i swore off fords after many many bronco's. But the all black excursion was too nice for me to say no. I also really wanted a solid front axle truck. So here i am with my 03 V-10. I made sure i bought the extended warrenty though! Hopefully this truck may change my perspective of ford trucks. But honestly, the GM boards never had these kinds of threads. I guess its good i dont mind working on my cars!
