Thankyou in advance for any help on this topic.I have a 1993 Bronco 5.0 with a blown motor.I have a complete donor 1996 bronco 5.8 with MAF.I believe the 1993 is a speed desity system. What kind of problems am I going to have with this swap and where can I go for complete information.
You found the place...just make sure you get the computer with it! What tranny does your current Bronco have and what does the donor have?? Then again...is the "96" in better shape than your "93". To be honest with ya, I would look at the "96" as the vehicle of choice if your gonna go through the trouble of the swap. UNLESS the "96" is wrecked! Need more info. The swap is pretty straight forward (search the forum for engine swap). Just give us more info as far as the condition of the vehicles.
Personally the 96 maf is obd-II and is a headache. there are more sensors and such. I would reuse your 93 5.0 harness on the 96 motor. will be far easier.
did you 93 5.0 have the tfi module mounted to the distributor or is it on the fenderwell?
My question is how much of the truck harness am I going to have to get.Do I need everything including what is in the cabin up to and including the instument cluster. My donor truck is a 1996 bronco with the 5.8 MFI and e40d transmission. The recipiant is a1993 bronco 5.0 liter with Iam assuming an aod transmission. The TFI module is mounted on the fenderwell.
Another issue I have and just realized is that my donor truck has the electric transfer and the other truck"s transfer is manual. How does that affect the swap and will it bolt the e4od?
Just use the wiring harness that's already in the truck. They are exactly the same. Everything stays in the 93, including the harness, instrument cluster, etc. The only thing that you'll need to pick up is a computer that will run a speed density 5.8 and, if you have the AOD-E or 4R70W, the tranny as well.
The transfer case is completely independent of the rest of the swap. They are also interchangeable between transmissions.
Thank you for the reply Andym.I would like to stay with the 96 MAF system. The transmission that I got with the donor is a brand new Eo4D and the engine is a very well maintained 351w.I plan on doing some Mods to this engine and from what Iam hearing the MAF sytem responds well to any modifications.I would like to know what I have to do to make this work and where I can go to get information to finish this project.Any help would be greatly appreciated.
While we're kind of on the subject here, in an '86 Bronco is the AOD a seperate entity from the computer?
yes it is.
now if you are dead set on doing this you will need the entire harness from the 96. the problem is that most if not all the gauges probably wont work because of the different system. this type of maf setup is not like what everyone else is trying to run. you can still run that new e4od with that 5.8 and the speed density setup/harness.
what mods are you planning, because speed density can handle heads, headers, intake, cam with proper specs just fine.
but if your dead set check out www.fordfuelinjection.com
the tranny that is in your 93 if auto would be the e4od. the AOD was dead by this year in all 4wd rigs
You will need engine harness and bay harness at least to firwall . Take both harness apart use all your bronco connections for lights ect. and lay . harness for ecm w/ maf wires in it. Worst part will be figuring what/where wires from the firewall to ecm go (new plug is different). Get good elec. diagrams. I have done 2 of these . And forget to write down both times. The last trucks improvement in MPG and proformance more than paid me back . This will be time consuming . There are piggy back harnesses but they wany to sell you everything you already have. Maybe you can get easier.
Hey I've done some digging. The obd-11 is a pain as well as a change in brake system More wires to inside. . there are alot more hassels . I used a 94 F150 harness in my 93 and split both harrnesses like said. 94 -95 harness would be best to get.Get maf and ECM ( a 94-95 ecm) ,air box and then try to get after market harness. Good luck
Thankyou for all of the help.I will be using the speed density system afterall. To much trouble to convert and I dont want any DEQ issues. Will I need to change the ecm since the engine is different. If I need to change the ecm which one should I use.I plan on resealing the engine and will probably will do waterpump, oil pump and timing chain. Can you suggest any other mods while this motor is out.
locate an ecu that matches your motor tranny combo. if your gonna run the 5.8/e4od that should be easy and plentyful. if you have a manual tranny locate a 5.8/C6 ecu but know that you would lose cruise control with that option.
as for upgrades it depends on your wallet. you got the basics , but a set of headers and aftermarket Y pipe would be good idea. if you have a little more money look into a cam upgrade, that 96 5.8 should be a roller ready block so a roller cam for speed density efi is what you need. since your planning on doing the timing chain the cam would be a good choice as well.
