I went to auto zone and bought two bottles of lucas power steering stop leak (even though it was not leaking , just make whine). Sucked some of the out fluid out and put the lucas in...WOW what a difference, no more whine.
Comes in a 12oz bottle, got mine for about 8 bucks each.
With my '03 super crew 4.6, the pump has the typical, (but loud) Ford Whine. Is there an aftermarket Power Steering Pump that is Quiet???
Reamer
How many miles are on it? I've found that after 60-70K miles, the fluid needs flushed out and replaced with fresh and it'll stop that annoying whine.
JL
The atypical ford whine is caused by abrasive particles introduced into the fluid that scores the pump valve plate. Most reman pumps are repainted reboxed defective pumps. You have a better chance of getting a good pump out of the salvage yard. For the best pump get a new one from Ford. Whenever the PS system is opened or a part is replaced ALWAYS install a return line filter.
