I know what your thinking but this isn't a installation question. I was told today that when i replace the battery in my 04 that i had to do certain steps so the computer would adjust accordingly, The only thing is the guy didn't know was the whole procedure. Is there such thing?
Just drive it....the computer needs to readjust itself to normal conditions. It's called 'drive cycles'. I believe it's something like....start -- drive slowly for a bit (1/4 mile), speed up to highway speed for a bit.....slow down to street speed......stop. Do it all again. I think it needs like 4 or 5 drive cycles to re-learn.
Alternatively you might buy one of those battery kits that let you plug in a small battery(9V transistor type) usually in the cigarette lighter. These will help your computer and radio keep their memory. They don't last long so make it snappy.
Whenever you disconnect your battery, the computer will have to "relearn" about your engine and driving style. You usually don't have to do anything special other than drive it normall for several on off cycles. Also I hate that the radio forgets all the what, 18 channels?
So the battery backup or whatever they call it is worthwhile in my mind. Make sure you cigarette lighter socket is live even with the key off. Otherwise the backup battery will have no effect.
If you know what you are doing you can clip one of these batteries across the regular terminals. Or if you are really cheap and KNOW what you are doing, just run a jumper and battery on the terminals. I won't go into this since if you don't know what you are doing you can fry everything. So get a manual if you don't know what to do.
