I have a 97 F-150, Long-bed X-Cab, 4.6 engine, automatic: I'm looking at the following ideas: Since the brakes are due soon, and now I've obtained a travel trailer, I'm interested in switching to rear disc breaks and the gear ratio of 3.55, which according to my owners manual, should be suitable for my situation of weight ranges.
My thoughts are swapping out the 97 rear axle with a 99-03 axle with the disc brakes and ratio already on that axle. It seems like this would be more practicle/easier over redoing the entire original axle?
Feasability and suggestions/cautions would be appreciated...
You may need the brake hoses, emergency brake cables and either master cylinder (not sure on the m/c)or the proportional valve to make it work correctly. Shouldn't be a bad swap if the donor truck is available.
