newbie questions
I just got an 87 F150, 5.0 liter auto. Is this year supposed to have overdrive (AOD)? I am only hearing three speeds like it is a C4 or C6. I know this was the first year of the "new" bodystyle. Any thoughts? Thanks.

i think it was around 89 maybe 90 they dropped the c-6 completely, from the early 80's when ford came out with the aod, and up until then you could have either in the truck. the c-6 is a great tranny, very tough and will take a lot of hp and torque. i've owned several and the only downside is not having overdrive.

Does the truck have an OD on/off button on the dash, if yes it is most likely an AOD, no than it is probably a c4 or c6. I know that the c6's were avaialble with the 351's (my 90 F350 with 351 had a c6), I'm not sure with the 302.

The trany I had in a winter beater 89 Bronco with aod was was never any way (no butons)You couldn't lock it in 2 nd gear. shift indicator went ,1 .,drive .od. Sucked towing in town. and between drive and over drive (you could tell by tach) hardly tell it shifted. Good luck .
