knapikmichael,
4.56 gears would give you 73 MPH with 38" tires at 2100 RPM in overdrive.
That would be almost the same as 31" 235/85-16 stock tires with your 3.55 gears at 76 MPH at 2100 RPM.
cheaper,
The ratios are stamped on the plate.
The prices you quoted for the ZF 5 are about 1/2 of what I could get one here for, but I only price an S47, and I am afraid I would break the S47 case.
The S47 is the heavier duty transmission of the two.
Both are compatable with the 1345 and 1356 BW transfer cases....
COOL BEANS! Guess I'm gonna' be taking the cash with me when I go look at it!
What is the difference between the 1345 and 1356 transfer cases?
I'll bet the ZF & TC combo are longer than the T-19 and its TC, huh? Probably going to have to replace or customize my driveshaft....
More than worth it to get that 0.77:1 fifth gear ratio. That ought to
be sweet with my 4.10 gears! Better than an aftermarket OD even since they are about 0.83:1 and most won't work in 4WD either!
What wheel base truck is it out of?
If it happened to be the same as yours, I would either measure the drive shaft to compare or buy the drive shaft as well.

Yeah, if he has it - but I don't think he does. He bought it to put behind a 460 and then found out it wouldn't fit!
I did a ZF in my bronco... it was 2.5" longer than my AOD was... I had to move the cross member back 2.5", but luckily because of my 8" lift, the rear drive shafy became almost the perfect length... the front became almost 3.5" too short...
When are you putting yours in cheaper? I will be doing the swap on the weekend of Feb 10th in my diesel... I will let you know how it goes and what I end up needing
I would also say keep with the Tcase in the truck.... The ZF will come with a 1356, and the 86 will have a 1345... the 1345 is a larger, stronger Tcase... and you will have to watch if they are slip or fixed yoke on the back

So either TC will fit? I get to choose? NICE!
I'm doing my front axle swap tomorrow afternoon, but probably won't get to the tranny 'til close to the end of the month...
I will follow your progress with keen interest, and appreciate any and all tips and advice you can give me.
For what it's worth- I have 3.55 gears and a 4 spd manual with 38's. And it is a slug off the line, I now almost have to use granny to take off. Tranny is nearly new, so I don't want to replace it, and gears are way too expensive to replace. Also in 4th on the highway it is completely gutless. As far as mileage goes on this truck, I have never really checked it. My exhaust sounds way to good to keep my foot out of it. I am married w/ 3 kids now, so I can't throw the stupid amounts of money at it like I used to. That's why I have been watching this forum so much as of late. I can't afford a turbo, don't think this old 6.9 could handle the stress anyway. I need all the little tips and tricks I can get.
What are you doing for a front axle swap?? D60????
I wish! No, I have a 4.10 rear and a 3.55 front, 2001gocougs has a 3.55 rear and a 4.10 front, so we're doing a swap to get both our setups matched up.
You need to get the truck with a D60 front and F350 springs, put the F350 blocks in the back and run a dually on 35" tires.... DROOL... That is one thing I wish I had the $$$ to do!
35" tires on a dually rear axle will be expensive to do, the tires will rub between the duals and probably on the rear springs.
To do that you would wind up using 4 spacers to get clearance for the tires.
Not only that, but duallies are a major pain in the snow and ice. Not worth it just for the look, IMHO, plus two more tires to buy. I'd rather spend the money on sumthin' else.
DAVE: By the way, how long does it take for me to be allowed a pre-written signature in my posts? The FAQ says somebody has to give me permission.

hope it helps. Measurements are from center of joints at the ends.
Well, the transfer case came with the front driveline - so I've got that covered for sure.
Got any info in that manual 'bout the length of the front half of the rear driveline for an F250 SuperCab with the T-19 vs. the ZF? I'm talking about the section between the carrier bearing and the transfer case.
That's the one I'm a little worried about at this point.
