has anyone on here lengthened the breathers on your diffs? where'd you lengthen them to? the front is fairly obvious.... but the rear? just tuck itup as high as i can under the bed? what did you use to lengthen them? oh... this is an 89 f150 dana 44 up front and 8.8 in the rear.

thanks

i bought a spool of rubber hose (it was like $.20 a foot) but i ran them all the way in the cab. drilled holes in the floor and ran them up in the top of the cab in the corner. worked very well and never had a water problem!

I did close to the same thing, except i didn't want to drill in my body so fed it between the bed and the cab and drilled a hole into my toolbox, and put it in there, worked great, never had a problem yet.

Ditto for the in cab mounted breathers, the ones for the t-case, and the trans also reside in there too. Don't forget those.

do you just use a hose barb to extend the tubing? and do you have to worry about any smells coming from the breathers? diff fluid is nasty stuff

I made all new hoses, (ss braided) and ss fittings. I like to be able to remove the hoses when it is time to remove the component. Those crazy long hoses seem to always get in the way. But you could use anything you want, as long as it will not pop off, or let any water in. As far as the smell goes, I have never noticed that gear oil stink, the only odor in my truck, is the sweet smell of VP C14! OOOOH Yeah........

the factory ones are just a little hose barb. just put the new hose on there with a clamp and it will be good.

Maybe you could run it up one of the stake pockets? I'm not sure, but that's what I'd try.

On my BII, behind the rear driver qtr trim panel for the rear axle and engine compartment for the front.

Considering on many Fords the transmission and transfer case share one breather, that would be the one to spend a lot of time relocating. Up into the pillar post, at least on a BII, is good because there is a drain hole/hose there anyway.
