My electronic wheel locks on my 94 ford explorer stopped working. They have already been replaced once before is there any way to ocnvert them to manual hubs. How hard is this to do and where can I buy them
Technically, the hubs aren't electric, they are mechanical. The t-case shift motor is the electric part.
Absolutely you can convert them to manual hubs. Warn and Milemarker both make hubs and conversion kits (though I've heard you can get the wheel bearing locknuts cheaper if you buy them separately). I think Superwinch even makes them. It's not hard. Get your Haynes/Chiltons manual and follow the instruction for removing the rotor with auto hubs, then follow the instructions for installing with manual hubs.
A big problem with the auto hubs was too much grease. Pull the wheel off and slide the hub off and take a look. Maybe someone just packed too much in. All you need is a very thin coating inside. My 92 still has auto hubs, but my 94 Ranger (same set-up but twice the miles) has the manual hubs. MrShorty said it all if you want to swap.
