Does anyone know if the HD edition is any different than the other psd out there? the only thing that i noticed different was that the top speed will reach about 115mph fully stock where other models would quit at 95-100mph. i'm not a top speed freak, it was just an observation. I figure if anyone will know, it'll be you guys, great info on the site, thanks for the help.
Welcome Josh, the HD is an awesome looking truck inside and out. I do not have one and have not driven one. My '04 does have an Edge w/ Attitude Platinum Edition tuner and it has a feature in setting 5 to eliminate the speed limiter. Typically on stock the speed limiter kicks in around 95-100 mph, and I don't think from the factory it would be any different on an HD, since it is the same engine just different exterior and interior cosmetic differences. I'm figuring you just got lucky with the speed limiter.
There are other tuners out there that will do the same with the speed limiter, as tuners are geared for performance, so shop around.
thanks deacjrt, what do you use your truck for primarily? what kind of mileage do you get per gallon? what size tires? etc. do you know about warranty and programmers/mods? i cant get a straight answer from anyone, and believe me i'm lookin! i really want to get at least a programmer and exhaust, but noone will tell me if i'm gonnavoid any warranties. thanks!
They are basically Super Duties of a Lariat trim level with the Ford Harley-Davidson Alliance package on top. That package is pretty much all appearance items. I posted a listing according to the '06 order guide in this previous thread. It may not be specific to the '04 model year, but it gives you an idea. The essence here is that nothing in, or affecting, the drivetrain changes.
As for the top speed...I kind of question that observation. If both trucks had the same gearing & what-not, there should be no difference between the programming running on any given 6.0L-powered Super Duty--Harley-Davidson edition or not. Assuming either that the Harley-edition is up to date with reflashes or that Ford has not made some form of stealthy change to the rev/speed limiter in one of the flash updates.
If one of the trucks had a change in gearing or tire size, but not a corresponding reflash of the PCM to reflect that change, that could account for a rather significant error in the speedometer reading. Just a thought.
Top speed cut-outs are usually programmed according to the speed rating of the tires that come on the vehicle. Does the Harley Edition possibly come with a different tire from stock that has a higher speed rating? That would be my only guess.
My '06 Harley F-250 is shod with the usual Goodyear Wrangler AT/S tires in a 275/65R20 size. They carry an S speed rating which equates out to a 112 MPH or 180 Km/H. I'll just suffice it to say that the speed limiter kicks in before that.
The Harley package is entirely a appearance package. It does have a 115 MPH speedometer, but once again I am pretty sure it is for looks. Never have tried to hit the speed limiter, so I could be wrong. Although, I don't think top speed would be any different than any other '04 Super Duty.
The stock Goodyear Wrangler AT/S's have a S Speed Rating which is 112 mph.

Yes, with nearly every dealer it will void warranty if you experience a problem that could have been caused by tuner. Very vague. I waited till I had several thousand miles on the truck, had a serpentine belt chirp so it was replaced but other than that I have never been to a dealer. They have amazing power stock when you are in the powerband. The tuner make them ridiculously sic (I mean this in a good way, Florida language), I love my tuner, but i have 6 sp and it works perfect with it. I can change settings on the fly, so when I feel like hotdogging I'm screaming down I-95. When I feel like taking it easy in level 1, I still have some additional horsepower but can save some MPGs. So, with my responses below keep in mind I have a sp and control my rpms.
I drive mine primarily for pleasure and highway travel. I live outside Jacksonville, Fl and travel all over Florida, where needed repairing phone systems. So I put some highway miles on my truck. That said, I work in Jacksonville also and do a lot of idling through the week sitting in traffic. My mpgs in town are probably about 18. When I travel on the highway they get up to 19 or just above, not a huge difference but the 6 sp I believe aides in my mileage. I have BFG 295/75/16 tires and my mileage is based off that. They are a larger tire so I have to take that into consideration when calculating mileage. My tuner allows me to enter tire size and it calculates true speed. Anytime I increase my rpms the mpgs drop. My truck gets the best mpgs when I keep it below 2K on the rpms.
As for warranty, if you play, you pay. Just be prepared if you put a tuner on your truck you run a high risk of voiding some aspects of your warranty. Play safe and you might be fine. Hope this helps...Deac
