I am in thhe midst of building a 302 sb and am kinda stumped on how the oil pump is assembled into the motor. Can someone please send me a diagram or anything else that might be helpful in figuring this out? Thanks.
I don't have a diagram, but I've played around with a bunch of 302's. What is it thats giving you problems? They bolt to the block, up front, inside the oil pan with 2 bolts. The boss for the pickup tube goes toward the middle of the block.
Make sure you put the distributor drive in the top of the oil pump before bolting it in place. The disk on the dist drive goes on the pump end. There are various pickup up tubes and you want to use the one for the particular pan you're using.

Tim, If I'm not mistaken, the disk goes at the top (dizzy end) so that if the hex shaft sticks in the dizzy drive, it can't pull completely out of the oil pump when you pull the dizzy. If it comes out of the pump, it can fall into the sump.
You may be absolutely right Ross. I know you're right about the function of the disk. All I know for sure is it goes in before the pump goes on. Hmmmmmmm.......
