I have an 89 f-250, with a 460 acquired from my grandpa. He drove this truck everywhere. This year I took it hunting and towed a camper. I got home, parked it, let it sit for a couple of months. Now it overheats. I bought a new thermostat and that did not chang the problem at all, what could the problem be?
Water pump like taisa said, maybe change your radiador cap. Give the system a good flush and completely fill with good antifreeze. Could just be a partially clogged radiador try reverse flushing.
When you say overheating, do you mean that the temp gage on the dash is showing higher than normal temps or are you having other indications?
I had the same problem just recently with my 89 F-150. Turned out the sensor for the temp gage was my problem and that I was not actually running hot at all. In the end it cost me just a thermostat and the worry about what the problem was.
