57 VIN location

I can't find a VIN number to my 57. I thought it was supposed to be on the driver dor but mine is not. I found the s/n GVW axle paint tag on the front side of the driver doo. No it is not on the glove box door. My driver door rubes so I worry it may have worn off.

Any help appreciated Ryan

That should be it...VIN's do not remotely resemble what's on vehicles today.

Parts Book states location is: Left front cab pillar (if not inside glove box door).

It should be on the inside of the glove box door - if that has been lost it is stamped on the frame in two places. Both locations are on the top of the right frame rail, one in front of the cab mount, the other behind.

They can be very hard to spot - I used a wire brush and thinner to bring mine out. I also had the chassis removed. Other people have told me that sometimes the production line would stamp the frames closer to the radiator support, one even said it had been stamped into the front crossmember.

All of mine VIN were on top of the frame top rail flange, it could be anywhere and doesn`t seem to be in any consistant location. It is very, very hard to see.
While it helped to find the stamping by sandblasting it`s still very hard to see it even then, the stamping is not deep and really it`s too faintly done. Seems they didn`t want you to find it.
