ihi me again my 90 f250 has a 351 w but im getting a load tapping noise from the passenger side vavle cover it goes away after like 10 min of it running could it be a lifter or something else?? would it help if i said when i changed the oil last week the filter was full of sluge. did i burn a berring or something please help.
It does sound like a gummed up lifter to me. I would recomend picking up a can of seafoam and running it in your oil for a week or so (or at least until the ticking quiets down) then changing your oil again. That stuff should clean out some of the crud in your lifter and let it pump back up quicker when you start up the motor. All that sludge you found can't be good for anything.
Hopefully this helps. I have had really good luck with this stuff and it sounds like it has a good following among other people on this site as well.
Just ask for it at any auto parts store. They should have it or know exactly where you can find it. You want Motor tune. They also make a trans tune for automatic transmissions. In my area it is about 4-5$ a pint.
Read the directions on the back. I think you use the whole can when adding thru the oil but I haven't used it that way for a while. It also makes a good fuel injector/carb cleaner. I always keep a can or two around.
