Hey my dad is looking at picking up a 2007 f250 superduty its a 6.0 automatic desiel fx4 quad cab and he wants to no what performance mods he can do to it with out voiding the warranty also. What chips can you install that are just plug and play as he will be towing a land scape trailer around and also my v8 ranger to the track the odd time but he has the need for speed as well in his older years just looking to up the hp a bit the truck has 3:73's in the rear as well thanks
Technically, any mod that damages vehicle components will void your warranty.
Now, that being said. Some dealerships are "mod friendly" and some aren't. Most dealerships will work on your truck if you are up front and let them know what's been done to the truck and what is wrong with it. Make sure you don't try to get warranty repairs when you know a mod has caused the problem to begin with.
Some dealerships will refuse to honor warranty work if any modification (ie. chip or tuner) has been done to the truck. That's why I said to be up front when you take the truck in for work. The dealer will let you know right away if you will be charged or not for repairs.
There are very few (but they are out there) dealerships that will blame anything and everything on mods, even if there is no way possible that a certain modification could have caused the problem. Steer clear of those places.
I've personally had my truck repaired under warranty several times with lots of mods on it. Every time I was up front and honest with the dealership, and I've never had a single problem with Ford upholding the warranty.
First of all, the truck just like it is, is plenty powerful. Have him drive it first before trying to mod it. Second, chipping or installing a programmer on it WILL void your engine warranty (if Ford finds out about it and you have an engine related failure). Read the warranty section in front of owners manual.
Now in the real world, there are plenty of programmers out there and I'm sure you will hear all about them right after I post this.
I pull a 30' fifth wheel with mine and I don't believe I NEED any power enhancer. Am I the faster thing on the road, hell no, but it sure does the job.
i work at a ford dealership and the only mod that i know of that ford wont void your warranty is a larger exhaust, but make sure it is from the cat back, if it remove or is in front of the cat your warranty is done. the number one failure of 6.0s is from over boosting of the turbo and pluged egr valves, both that are caused by full (turbo back) exhaust systems or a programer of some sort. also dont even try to replace that factory air filter with an aftermarket as that is the fastest way to sandblast your turbo blades and cause them to stick.
