Tailgate Cables for 78f150 shortbed

1978 f150 4x4 Shortbed

I know this might be a silly question but I have been looking at alot of Parts websites and never am able to find Tailgate Cables for my truck to keep the new tailgate from flopping all the way open. Anyone know an easy website/place to get them?

Also, if you know how I can get my truck info to post automatically at the bottom of my posts like an email signature, let me know that as well. Ive been through my profile and cant find the option

many thanks

Does your truck have a Flareside (outside fenders) or Styleside bed?

It is the Styleside model. I guess its not cables I need but the Arm Parts. I can never seem to find just those and not the whole tailgate and assembly

The good news is the Styleside uses the same arms from 1964 to 1979. Where the tailgate latches on the rear, are there any oblong rectangular pieces the metal straps fit on? (Sorry I'm using a microfiche reader, so I can't scan and post pics).

Can you post a pic in your member gallery...from that, I can advise you what you need.

C4TZ-9944482-A bumper, tailgate (2)

C4TZ-99431B54-A Bracket, to body tailgate strap mounting (2)

NumberDummy. Its at home and Im at work so I'll have to take some photos of the truck when I get there in a couple of hours and Ill try to have them up on my profile or somewhere by 11AM EST Wed, Jan3.

Basically I just need Arms, Cables, or whatever else anyone thinks will work and the best place to buy them. All I can seem to find is one person selling a rusty pair on Ebay.

I posted the parts numbers above ^^^^this should take care of it. Your local dealer will have pics...take the numbers I posted with you...you may still be able to get them from Ford.

Our trucks use the metal arms. I just bend the set on the truck I'm getting rid of other wise I would have sent them to you for cost. Only one side is a little bent. You could probably straighten it out rather easily. They're not rusty either...

Is there any swap to use the cable style off the 199ish trucks?

Well...I don't know why you would want to, but the only difference I would see would be the mounting points, where you could probably weld or bolt on the newer cable style mounts.

The Cables off of a 1983 and newer truck, would not have the tensile strength to hold the larger heavier tailgate up, IMO.

Oh, and a little off topic question for numberdummy...

Mr. Numberdummy, do you know the part numbers of the tailgate straps for the 1980 to 1982 trucks? They look simular to the 73-79's etc, only inverted. Would be nice if they are the same ones too.

My part numbers are correct...but the word "straps' was not a good choice of words.

1964-1979

C4TZ-9944400-A ...ARM, TAILGATE
C4TZ-99431B54-A ..BRACKET, TAILGATE ARM
C4TZ-9944482-A ..BUMPER, RUBBER, TAILGATE

The main part will be prtetty close to the ones above.
If they were differently designed for the 80 truck but would be close beause of the job they do..
The part number would be something E0TZ-994410-A

or do you mean these at the top of the page?

http://blueovaltruckparts.com/catalo...oducts_id=6340

or these for 83-86

http://blueovaltruckparts.com/catalo...oducts_id=6332
